Séfora Camazano is a contemporary portrait artist based in Valencia, Spain. Her work uses portraiture to explore the relationship between individual identity, personal memory and collective history.
Each portrait begins with a real person and a specific encounter. Conversation, observation and trust shape the work before the first photograph is taken.
Camazano does not approach portraiture as a simple record of appearance. Her aim is to construct an image capable of preserving character, biography and emotional presence.

Beyond resemblance:
the portrait as recognition
Physical resemblance is only the starting point. Gesture, posture, gaze, clothing, colour and surrounding space all contribute to the meaning of the portrait.
Many of Camazano’s subjects are women whose lives have been shaped by migration, displacement, violence or personal transformation. Their portraits are not designed to illustrate suffering, but to recognise dignity, autonomy and the complexity of each individual.
Through scale and visual presence, the represented person occupies a space traditionally reserved for historical, aristocratic or institutional portraiture.
The contemporary portrait becomes an act of visibility: a way of asserting that this life, this face and this story deserve to remain.

From personal encounter
to enduring image
The process begins with listening. Camazano learns about the subject’s history, experiences and relationship with the themes that will enter the work.
A carefully directed photographic session then explores expression, posture, movement and emotional distance. The selected image becomes the foundation for an extensive process of digital painting and compositional transformation.
The artwork is produced as a museum-quality Fine Art print and completed by hand with acrylic paint, glazes, texture and protective finishes.
This combination of photography, painting and material intervention creates a portrait that remains connected to reality while acquiring a new symbolic and physical presence.
