Alejandra arrived in Spain from Colombia with her daughter after a period marked by violence, instability and the need to begin again.
Her story introduces a central idea in Confidence: the possibility of building a future even when certainty is still absent.
Confidence does not portray what Alejandra left behind, but her willingness to keep moving forward.
The artwork moves biography outside the scene and concentrates attention on her presence, her identity and the place she is beginning to occupy.

Why this work
is called Confidence
In Confidence, the title does not refer to certainty, but to the willingness to move forward while the future remains open.
That idea runs through the work as an inner attitude: not knowing what will happen, and continuing to build nonetheless.
To trust is not to know the outcome, but to move forward without it.

02 · The Valencian dress
A new sense of belonging
The traditional Valencian dress places Alejandra within an iconography that does not belong to her place of origin, bringing her presence into another territory and another visual tradition.
03 · The flowers
A motif throughout the work
Flowers appear in her hands, on the table, in pots and around the figure. Their repetition creates rhythm and leads the eye across the surface of the canvas.
04 · The basket
Abundance in the foreground
The basket overflowing with flowers occupies the foreground, intensifying the sense of visual abundance, bringing colour closer to the viewer and adding depth to the composition.
05 · The Albufera
A recognisable landscape
The green fields, white buildings and open horizon evoke the landscape of the Albufera, placing the figure within a distinctly Valencian geography.
06 · Colour
A vibrant composition
Intense greens, blues, pinks, reds and golds extend across the work. Colour does not function as background, but as a force that surrounds the figure and keeps the entire composition visually active.
Curatorial reading
Belonging without
ceasing to be
Confidence places Alejandra within a cultural territory that was not originally hers, without turning that incorporation into a renunciation of identity.
The work presents belonging as something that can be constructed and expanded. Alejandra does not appear as an outsider within the scene: she inhabits it naturally and becomes part of it.
The pictorial exuberance reinforces that idea. Against a story marked by uncertainty, the image opens towards presence, colour and the possibility of a life still being constructed.
Artistic reference
In dialogue with Joaquín Sorolla
Confidence takes Valencian Farmwoman (1899), by Joaquín Sorolla, as its point of departure, retaining the reference to traditional dress and Valencian visual culture.
By placing Alejandra within that structure, Séfora Camazano brings the image into the present. The composition no longer belongs solely to a historical tradition; it becomes a space in which identity, migration and belonging acquire a contemporary reading.

Creative process
From the photographic session
to the finished artwork
Confidence began with a photographic session with Alejandra, in which the pose, clothing and essential elements of the composition were constructed.
The final image was transferred to 100% cotton, acid-free canvas using Giclée Fine Art printing, preserving the chromatic range and detail of a work conceived at large scale.
